A few weeks ago I gave a presentation on HTML5/CSS3 to the developers of Technology Services at Tulane University. Just a week later, David Robinson invited me to speak on the subject with the New Orleans Multimedia Adobe User Group (NOMMUG). Topics included mobile-first methodology, responsive web design (RWD), and progressive enhancement.

RWD goes a long way towards addressing device diferences and media-queries are one of its strongest assets. However, CSS3 media-queries are not a magic bullet. Depending on your content and audience RWD with media-queries may not be the best solution for your application. Fortunately, there is more than one way to skin an app. HTML5 Rocks provides some non-media-query and hybrid methods.

HTML5 has something HTML 1-4, XHTML, and XML never had - a very public and extended endorsement from the late Steve Jobs. That alone may have tipped the balance in favor of standards adoption and possibly moved the W3C to expedite HTML5 spec approval from 2022 to 2014. The jungle of client data carriers, devices, browsers, and versions continues to grow exponentially. The real possibility of standards adoption has the potential to alleviate a large portion of our developer woes. And while late to the game, even MicroSoft says IE10 will support most HTML5 and CSS3.

was the extent of our budget. After producing a few experimental videos, I was looking to make something a little less impromptu.

We filmed these dancers in March 2004 at at locations in Hammond and New Orleans, LA. The showing (April 2004) was a multi-media event of photography, film and dance. The concept is based on women lamenting a broken relationship with mother earth, and the misrepresentation of women throughout history. There were three videographers and three photographers. The dancers were choreographedand each artist rendered thier own final product. The resulting show was a great success. The dancers intermingled with the videos playing on the backdrops.
